Functionality of regulators: Today, most of the regulators used on new alternators are electronic field types that are used to keep the voltage in the circuit at a constant level, irrespective of load or rotational speed (rpm).

Compared to the old mechanical types, electronic regulators have following advantages:
  • no wear of contact points, thus free of maintenance
  • shocks and vibrations have no direct impact on stability of output current, better performance
  • TK (Temperature compensation) levels can be used to balance
    temperature changes, thus leading to better charging results
  • Precision laser trimming of output current results in very narrow
    tolerances, providing a safer charging mode for the battery

Regulators are sub-divided and differentiated into the following groups:
  • a safer charging mode for the battery
  • according to the vehicles on-board voltage 14V (12V) or 28V (24V). The actual battery voltage is noted in brackets
  • according to the regulation mode: either positive and negative
  • regulation
  • according to the control lamp circuit: D+ or W+ (lamp relay)

Both 14V and 28V on-board voltage can use either of the above mentioned variants.
